A MAGICAL SUNNY DAY:

Audley End Miniature Railway - 6th August 2013

AEMR HS day 1What a wonderful day we all had on Tuesday 6th August at Audley End Miniature Railway and Fairy Walk, generously provided by Hon. Amanda Murray, our Patron. So many families enjoyed the sunshine, rides, games, activities, stalls and the glorious weather. We have so many thanks to make - our organising team: Amy, Kathryn, Debbie and Christine, with Karen and Nick at Audley End and all the help from Home-Start Volunteers, Staff and Trustees. The Diamonds, Barbara and Sharon, joined us together with three Santander staff, Robert, Paige and Nye, who AEMR HS day 3were stars on the day. Our friends on Buffy Bus kept all the little ones happy and all our stallholders donated a proportion of their takings - including the huge bouncy castles which were in constant use.
We are truly pleased with the day and would like to thank everyone who came to enjoy themselves and contributed to our funds. We can reveal that so far we expect the funds raised to exceed £4,000!

SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!

Other stall holders who helped us were:
Marta and Robert at Urban Picnic, Rachel at Harvey and Quinn, Heather at Neal's Yard Remedies Organic, Anne at Simply Framed, Helen at Phoenix Cards, Sarah who made wonderful fanciful faces for the children with her face-painting, Emma and Helen at Warescroft Farm Petting Zoo, Susie who brought the sweet tombola from Tesco and Derek at Model Engineers who run the tiny trains at Audley End. THANK YOU ALL!

Tony Vernon's 1000 mile ride.....HE DID IT!

Tony Vernon at jogTony writes:
My 1000 mile ride in support of Home-Start Uttlesford is over. By travelling mainly on minor roads and cycle paths, our group of 25 riders completed our 1012 mile journey from Lands End to John O'Groats at 4.30pm on Saturday 6th July. All but one rider completed the course.

The ride was, on the whole, very enjoyable - great scenery, favourable winds and only two days with extensive rain. The final 82 mile ride to John o'Groats was helped by a strong wind from the South West. At 73 I was the oldest person on the ride, though there was one other celebrating his 70th birthday and several riders in their 60s.
So far I have riased in excess of £4,000. Many thanks for the many generous donations. If you would still like to support Home Start Uttlesford, the Virgin Money Giving page is still open.

The Hadrian's Wall Run......THEY DID IT!

Maria writes:
HW after'We arrived, with some trepidation, in Northumberland to stunning scenery and blustery, overcast conditions. The car park was a remote field/fell with 6 portaloos, a coffee van and plenty of friendly sheep for company.
Fortunately, as the race began, the sun began to shine and we set off on our trail, not sure what lay ahead. The first section was a steep, winding road which really tested the legs, before turning onto fells, bogs and even a stile thrown in for good measure. After that we hit Wark Forest- a shingly, uneven path- no more sheep for company, just the midgies taking the odd bite from our legs and arms!
We finally saw the finish in sight- just a few more hills and cattle grids to cross and we were there. Pure relief for some- others keen to put our names down for next year!!! Breathtaking scenery, a challenging course-‘tougher than the London Marathon’ was one of the post-race comments. The great news is that we have raised over £4600 both online and through offline fundraising, with more money expected to trickle in over the next week or so. Thanks particularly to Hogan Lovells who contributed £750.
£230 will train a new volunteer, £165 per month provides a family with a volunteer for home visiting support- we are delighted that this enables us to continue to support local families.'
